about

This is the 2020 remaster of 2014’s mighty “Wanker”. I was in Seattle at the the time and all the black lives matters protests started kicking off. I remember I was getting my car serviced when the Ferguson riots kicked off and even 2000 miles away people looked uncomfortable. They all kept asking me, the only black guy in the dealership, why it was happening and how I felt. ?!? I guess I have the answer for everything. I think it was at that moment things started to change for me in life, my whole thought process just shifted and I wanted to leave SEA. I wanted to be more around my people and I wanted to have daily interactions with those who go through what I go through every single day and get me. The album opens with “Bullets in Bangkok” which was a remake of a song I made in 09 about protesting and police brutality. There’s a song about Seattle, “Cold Part of the World”, which explains my feelings on how hard it was being a person of colour there. “Every South Side” is about the vilification of the hood and how media tries to paint the picture that all black people are violent or downtrodden. It’s not true! I feel the most comfortable in the hood and feel the most love. People seem more genuine. “Molest Me” is about selling out my music for a dollar. “Poets’ Corner” is a literary trip through the deadest part of London, and “Vivienne Westwood” is a high five to one of my fav fashion designers. “A Lil Too Much Rodman” is my attempt to parallel my life with Dennis Rodman’s (the Chicago Bull great and a childhood acquaintance of my mother). This beat is cold as hell and the song is a good character study. I could break down this album forever, the onion layers just keep peeling. Peep it, now remastered on bandcamp! 🔥✊🏾❤️
